EcoDrip
Design a drip coffee machine for a target market group.
Research highlighted an opportunity to improve coffee machine sustainability through repairability and longevity. This influenced my persona, who values sustainable products and is willing to pay more for one designed to last.

Sketch
I developed the concept of using wooden legs to route and insulate the hot-water pipework. This combined the structure and function of the design, with research supporting wood’s insulating properties.

As this was a CAD-based project, I developed and refined multiple iterations of the design, adjusting the form and components until everything worked together effectively.

I tested the design using FEA software and engineering calculations, comparing the results against research-based material and performance data to validate the design.

Final
The final design was a natural, sustainable drip coffee machine that reduced energy consumption through the heating element I designed, while maintaining effective coffee brewing performance.
Final Design
The final design was a sustainable drip coffee machine focused on energy efficiency, longevity and repairability. I used CAD, FEA and engineering calculations to refine the design, with the wooden structure helping insulate the hot-water pipework. The final heating system reduced energy consumption while the overall design used DFMA principles to create a practical, simple and manufacturable product.
