LOCOMOTOR Project

Designing and manufacturing a motor-driven locomotor using a supplied motor and components. I explored different mechanical locomotion systems before developing a walking mechanism based on the Klann linkage.

I started by exploring different locomotion mechanisms and chose to develop a Klann linkage, as its ability to transform rotary motion into walking movement created an interesting mechanical challenge.

Inspired by my love of the outdoors, I chose a natural wooden base with bright orange legs and linkages, reflecting how orange outdoor equipment stands out against natural surroundings while giving the prototype a bold, functional aesthetic.

Design Process

Final Design

The final design successfully achieved the original concept, with the motor providing enough power for the legs to move smoothly. The mechanism was reliable, compact and closely matched the initial vision.
